About Busby Advisory

Built by an operator, not a slide deck.

Busby Advisory was founded on a simple observation: most procure-to-pay failures are process failures. The software is usually fine. The process is not.

The founder

Tanner Busby

Founder and CEO, Busby Advisory

Tanner Busby has spent more than twenty years running procure-to-pay and operational finance across Fortune 500 and startup environments. He led procure-to-pay for a Microsoft operation processing $120 billion in annual payout volume and 1.5 million invoices a year.

That experience is the foundation of the Busby Method: recognizing a broken process quickly, tracing it to its root cause, and knowing from direct experience what actually fixes it.

“We run our own back office on the same intake, approval, and spend controls we install for clients.”

— Tanner Busby

The philosophy

Process first. Technology second. Every time.

Software doesn't fix a broken process.

It automates it. A company with a broken approval workflow that buys AP automation software now has a faster broken approval workflow — with better reporting on how long invoices have been stalled. The root cause is unchanged.

The sequence is the methodology.

Diagnose before you redesign. Redesign before you select tools. This isn't a preference — it's a dependency. You can't fix what you haven't mapped. You can't select the right tool for a process you haven't fixed.

Numbers make the case.

Every recommendation comes with a cost estimate. Not because it's a formality, but because the business case for fixing a process has to be clearer than the business case for buying software. That's the only way process work gets prioritized.
